K-12 Schools Eye Hurricane Recovery

As the Houston Independent School District continues to sort out which of its schools were damaged in Tropical Storm Harvey, school officials are postponing the start of the school until two weeks after school was supposed to start, according to an article in The Houston Chronicle.

Superintendent Richard Carranza told the Chronicle more than 35 campuses have been damaged in the storm, though it is unclear how many of those sustained extensive damage and how many received minor damage.

Craig Eichhorn, a spokesman for the Alief (Texas) Independent School District, said none of that district's campuses sustained flood damage, and only a couple of small roof leaks sprang up, none of which damaged flooring. Now principals are trying to reach teachers to see how they were affected by the floods and if they would be able to report to work as early as Tuesday.
