Holden Forests and Gardens is one of the country’s most popular and biggest properties of its kind, with more than 3,500 acres of trees, walking paths and buildings all dedicated to conservation and education.

In August, the property was hit by a series of tornadoes that caused plenty of damage and the loss of many trees. The aftermath forced the Holden Forests and Gardens to close temporarily as facilities staff assessed the situation and determined when it would be safe to reopen to the public.

In this video, Nico Viola, the Holden Forests and Gardens director of facilities, talks about how the weather event set the stage for his team to update its disaster recovery plan to include tornadoes – up until then a rare occurrence near Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio.

Key takeaways in the video:

  • Intense storms produced strong tornadoes, 0:30.
  • Updating disaster recovery plan to respond to storms, 2:05.
  • Lessons learned in updating a disaster recovery plan, 3:54.
