Flooding Closes Tourist Attractions

Nature can strike at any moment, and when it does, the result can be a great deal of damage to commercial and institutional facilities. No matter what the weather brings, though, maintenance and engineering managers need to be certain their facilities are as prepared as possible, even in the event of major flooding.

Heavy rainfall recently caused flash flooding through areas of the Northeast, including parts of Pennsylvania. Numerous tropical downpours caused flash flooding, and water rescues were reported and a disaster emergency was declared in at least one Pennsylvania town, according to The Weather Channel.

Two major tourist attractions in the area, Hershey Park and ZooAmerica, were closed for several days due to excessive rainfall and flooding, according to the York Daily Record. The closures are necessary for "the safety of our guests," park officials says.

The announcement comes as much of central Pennsylvania, including York County, is under a flood warning. The region is in the middle of six days of excessive rain and storms, with up to 10 inches of rain expected.
