Training an Essential Part of Disaster-Recovery Plan
Training is an essential part of any disaster-recovery plan. Facilities that provide training for department technicians who will be important responders will have the best chance for survival with the fewest losses.
Without training, the plan will not function as documented because people will not even know where the plan is, let alone how to use it. The plan must include emergency contact numbers, so it is essential that the document be readily available.
On March 1, 2003, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident.
FEMA is an excellent resource for proactive mitigation activities and training for emergency responders. The organization also manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
