Forney ISD's OC Transforms School Restrooms

The 350,000-square-foot facility required restroom fixtures built with longevity in mind.   June 28, 2024

Forney Independent School District’s Keith Bell Opportunity Central, or “The OC,” is a school that aims to transform the way schools and communities educate future generations. A career and college center, multi-purpose complex, and student-run business hub with fine arts spaces and more, it is designed to create new opportunities for everyone in the Forney ISD Family.

The 350,000-square-foot facility is home to many students, faculty and staff every day, so it demands restroom fixtures built for the long haul. That’s why Forney ISD Maintenance Director Ronnie Griffith specified Sloan products for The OC’s 43 restrooms — from faucets and sink decks to toilet and urinal flushometers — that enhance the new facility’s overall restroom aesthetic, save water, and make life stress-free for the maintenance team.

Performance Meets Durability

Reliable performance and long-lasting durability are important traits for products in any commercial restroom, but for schools, it is critical. The OC recognized this, as it chose to specify durable and hygienic Sloan ST-2459 Vitreous China Wall-mounted Water Closets and SU-1009 Vitreous China Washdown Urinals. The urinals all come with a vandal-resistant stainless-steel strainer. In addition, Sloan EWF-44000 4-Station Wall-mounted Wash Fountain Sinks at The OC are constructed of non-porous SloanStone solid surface material. These quadruple-station lavatory systems come equipped with Sloan Optima electronic sensor technology for hands-free operation.

A Lesson in Water Savings

Recognizing that durability and sustainability go hand in hand, The OC selected restroom products that help save water day in and day out. That’s why Griffith and his team specified Sloan’s Regal 111 1.28 gpf Water Closet Flushometers and Regal 186 0.5 gpf Urinal Flushometers, both of which offer superior water savings and performance aided by the ADA-compliant, non-hold-open handle, which prevents the fixtures from exceeding the intended flush volume. To further bolster its sustainability efforts, The OC specified Sloan’s EAF-150 0.5 gpm Optima Faucets, which are ideal for applications that require reliable sensor-activated faucet technology and efficient water savings.

High Marks for Maintenance

When it comes to cleaning and maintaining school restrooms, it is usually all hands-on deck. But at The OC, Sloan is helping make life easier for Griffith and his maintenance team every day with a variety of hands-free, hygienic products, including SloanStone two-, three- and four-station Wall-mounted Gradient Sinks. And that is not all. Sloan’s vitreous china water closets, urinals and SS-3003 Wall-mounted Backsplash Lavatories all come with SloanTec Hydrophobic Glaze, a unique proprietary glaze that inhibits the growth of germs, making products simpler to clean and keeping them cleaner longer.
