Arizona Reinstates School Inspections
The inspections were previously stopped because of budget cuts. July 18, 2023
Arizona governor Katie Hobbs has signed two executive orders that better prioritize schools within the state.
According to KTAR News, Executive Order 2023-14 will reinstate the inspection of education facilities throughout the state. Arizona previously had yearly inspections, however, budget cuts brought on by the Great Recession brought it to a halt. The inspections are expected to bring recommendations to districts that fall below minimum guidelines, allowing them to update the facility as necessary.
The second executive order will create an advisory council that will consult with exports in updating guidelines for districts, KTAR News reports. The new council will address issues including technology, square footage, and safety and security within schools. According to KTAR News, the council will be composed of representatives from large and small districts, urban and rural districts, educators and a school architect.
