Open Sesame: How to Celebrate Automatic Door Day

On March 19, the American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers (AAADM) is hosting a light-hearted event to bring awareness to their favorite technology.

The day marks the occasion of the second annual National Automatic Door Day, which will be celebrated by AAADM through a variety of assets, including a logo, sample messages, and social media posts. A press release says the day is dedicated “to the greatness of automatic doors, promoting messages of health, convenience, accessibility, equality, and simply the love for automated entryways.”

AAADM points out highlights in the history of automatic doors in its release, indicating they first emerged as key components to providing access to people with mobility issues and other physical differences. It also notes that they help promote public health by offering touch-free access, an important facet during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While these are serious reasons for institutional and commercial facilities to install automatic doors, even the organizers of the event admit National Automatic Door Day is an opportunity to have a little fun.

“It’s a fun way to remind the designers, builders and owners of public places – and the public – about why automatic doors are the preferred method of building entry for millions of people every day,” says AAADM president Len Pursell.
