Fall protection has been the most common OSHA violation for more than a decade, and the trend shows no sign of improving anytime soon. One recent Atlanta construction fatality offers a reminder of the ongoing need to protect workers from the all-too-common risk of falls.
A newly released police report is shedding more light on what happened the day a construction worker fell to his death in downtown Atlanta recently, according to Atlanta New First. Police were called to 327 Mitchell St. S.W., a building development that sits over The Gulch and is part of a project from Centennial Yards.
The victim was working on the 19th floor when at least one witness saw him fall. The report said the victim was not wearing personal protective equipment, including a safety harness. He was employed by a subcontractor working for the CIM Group, which has been asked to provide more details on what happened and what safety protocols were in place at the time of the accident.
