The world’s tallest mass timber building is apparently being completed in … Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Ascent is a 25-story apartment building that is expected to open this summer, according to urbanmilwaukee.com. The building will be 283 feet high and will exceed what’s currently the world’s tallest timber building, located in Norway, by 3 feet.

Ascent will include 259 apartments and will expose mass timber in many of the walls and ceilings and include wood-grain finished floors.

The building features parking on the first six floors, a seventh floor with an indoor pool and sauna with mass timber supporting the rest of the floor, and the remaining 18 floors all constructed with mass timber, including an outdoor deck and bar on the top floor.

According to the article, mass timber is an engineered, environmentally-friendly product that combines layers of lumber into stronger material. Its makeup will only char during a fire instead of burning through. The article says mass timber buildings are most commonly used in the Pacific Northwest.
