A tower in Miami dubbed as the first COVID-conscious, pandemic-ready skyscraper broke ground this summer.
The building will be 55 stories and measure almost 700-feet-tall and will cost about a half-billion dollars according to the Royal Palm Companies development firm tasked with construction.
The Legacy Residences, Hotel and Medical Tour at Miami Worldcenter is being designed incorporating germ-zapping technologies and will include residential, hospitality, and health and wellbeing features. Royal Palm claims the combination of features makes the building the first of its kind in the world.
The building will consist of about 1 million square feet and include 310 high-rise residences, about 220 hotel rooms, and a 10-floor of a health and wellbeing medical center measuring 120,000 square feet and an investment of $100 million.
The health center will include on-site physicians, ventilators, and a pharmacy among other medical services for residents.
Royal Palm said The Legacy will include coronavirus-disinfecting technologies and hospital-grade ventilation systems, UV robots, facial recognition and touchless entry devices and water purifiers.
“Here, you have a medical wellness center combined with a hotel, residences, all in one tower,” says Daniel Kodsj, CEO, Royal Palm Companies. “This is, in essence, pandemic ready. One day in the future you could shelter in place right in the building.”
Foundation construction is currently underway, with concrete and vertical construction scheduled to begin early next year. The building is expected to be completed in 2025.
