What role does sustainability play in the design process? How has that changed over the last few years?
In the last few years, sustainability has gone from a choice to a responsibility. While LEED certification still requires significant time and effort to complete, many designers are able to integrate sustainable strategies with little additional effort or cost, particularly when dealing with interior finishes and furniture. Manufacturers across these industries have made great advances in the sourcing, engineering and production methods. Better and clearer documentation of LEED adherence has also given clarity to the selection process. Now, good design and sustainable design are no longer mutually exclusive. "Green" design is simply "smart" design.
