The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published MG 2-2001 Revision 1, 2007 Safety Standard and Guide for Selection, Installation, and Use of Electric Motors and Generators. Safety depends greatly on how machines are selected, installed, and used. This publication is a guide to assist both the user and the manufacturer of driven or driving equipment in the proper selection, installation, and use of machines.

It identifies potential hazards and suggests ways to reduce the risks. If the guidelines are followed, the risks of using machines may be reduced. The standard revises and supersedes MG 2-2001.
