Meta revealed that it has entered a contract with U.S. clean energy provider Ørsted to source solar energy from Salt River Project (SRP) for its Mesa, Arizona data center. By the terms of the contract, Meta will receive a sizeable portion of the solar energy created from Ørsted’s Eleven Mile Solar Center, currently under construction in Pinal County, Arizona.
This project, once fully online in 2024, will be the largest solar-plus-battery project on SRP’s grid.
Eleven Mile Solar Center is located on over 2,000 acres and is estimated to generate $89 million in lifetime tax revenue. The storage capacity of the facility will add to the cumulative total of over 1,100 megawatts of large-scale batteries that will be operational on SRP's system by the end of 2024.
Moreover, Meta will benefit from 50 megawatts of power generated by the West Line Solar Facility, which boasts a total capacity of 100 megawatts. Another source of energy will be provided by the 200-megawatt Brittlebush Solar Facility.
These initiatives contribute to Meta's pursuit of 100 percent net-zero emissions and renewable energy objectives.
