Training Data Center Employees
February 24, 2009
How well trained are the facility operators who run your data center? What about the IT staff who come and go?
The reliability of a data center - to say nothing of the efficiency - depends in large part on the staff and training of those who run the equipment each day. When most facility managers think about data center reliability, they think of the tier rating system from the Uptime Institute. Those ratings of course, are based on the design of the data center. But most data center outages are based on human failure, not the equipment.
How are your employees trained? How do you ensure that employees retain the proper information to deal with emergencies as they stay on the job? If you can't answer those questions, you may want to consider a more rigorous ongoing training program for staff.
