While the traditional analog security system provides a number of benefits, especially reduced first cost, today's Internet Protocol (IP)-based security systems provide improved storage flexibility, remote access and more. IP is the primary format for most network-based communication today, allowing cameras to send and receive data via a computer network and the Internet. This ability provides the IP camera systems with several advantages including higher camera resolution, compatibility with wireless networks, better integration with the access control system, video storage on a wide range of standard server equipment and the ability to embed video analytics into the cameras themselves. Since the IP camera was first introduced around 1996, its feature set has greatly improved. IP cameras are currently deployed worldwide and used by various institutions across a wide range of vertical markets.
