Spurred by the explosion of AI and numerous other factors, the data center industry is expected to grow in revenue to $28.46 billion by 2028.

Google has been and will continue to be at the forefront of this growth. The tech giant just announced it’s building a $1 billion data center in Kansas City, Missouri. As well, the company is supplementing this massive construction project by expanding a skilled trade development program in the region and contributing to North Kansas City School District’s alternative education STEAM program.

Further, part of the project will include development of 400 MW of new carbon-free energy, as part of a goal to run the new data center carbon-free.

The data center will be built in four phases and will, when completed, encompass a total of 1.435 million square feet of floor space on 300-plus-acre plot of land, according to Data Center Dynamics

Kansas City has become a hotbed of data center development lately. In 2022, Meta (Facebook’s parent company) announced plans to build an $800 million data center near the city.
