Google to Require Vaccinations, Postpones Return-to-Office Date

  August 2, 2021

The surging Delta variant of the coronavirus has companies big and small rethinking their return-to-office plans. Google, one of the biggest employers on the planet, is delaying the reopening of its campuses as COVID-19 case numbers rise again.

And once the tech giant’s 130,000 employees return to the office, employees will be required to have vaccinations before they can re-enter.

Google announced recently in an email to employees that it is pushing back employees’ return to the office until October 18 instead of September 1 as originally scheduled. It’s the third time Google has pushed back the return date.

Google CEO Sundar Pinchai says, “the extension will allow us time to ramp back into work while providing flexibility for those who need it,” according to an Associated Press article.

Google is following the lead of Apple, which announced previously that it pushed its return-to-office date from September to October.
