Bose has recalled about 77,500 ceiling and flush-mounted loudspeakers designed for commercial cooking facilities because mounting components can break, letting the speaker fall and potentially injure a person below. The company has received nine incident reports regarding falling speakers, including one incident resulting in minor injuries, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall 19-760.
Recalled speakers include FreeSpace DS40F in-ceiling/flush-mount loudspeakers manufactured before August 13, 2018, and all FreeSpace and EdgeMax in-ceiling/flush-mount loudspeakers installed in commercial cooking environments. EdgeMax models were sold between August 2017 and January 2019. FreeSpace DS 16 models were sold between February 2002 and January 2019. FreeSpace DS 40 models were sold between May 2010 and August 2018. FreeSpace DS 100 models were sold between January 2006 and January 2019. FreeSpace 3 models were sold between January 2002 and January 2019. The units were sold in black and white. See the recall notice for a full list of affected model numbers.
Facility managers affected by this recall are instructed to remove the speakers from use and contact Bose for either a free replacement or free safety cables. Bose can be reached at 800-576-1503.
