Newly formed Murata Energy Solutions Americas, Inc., a subsidiary of Murata Electronics North America, Inc., has introduced PowerConnect, a new product line developed exclusively for the automated demand response market.
“Murata Energy Solutions Americas’ primary focus is on delivering end-to-end solutions that combine Murata’s wireless IoT hardware with our own cloud-based software to the Energy industry,” says Tim Cutler, General Manager, Murata Energy Solutions Americas, Inc. “This a natural expansion for Murata as it is built on decades of experience in developing class-leading wireless products. The PowerConnect launch will be the first of many that demonstrates our leadership in this market.”
PowerConnect is a cloud-based SaaS that provides streamlined, highly reliable automated performance of demand response actions, as well as the automated monitoring and testing of emergency power supply systems. This allows for the aggregation of multiple facilities into a single portal, so that buildings where it wasn’t economically feasible beforehand can now participate in demand response programs. Additionally, since the solution is vendor neutral, it works with virtually any building management system (BMS). Unlike other solutions that require turning devices off, PowerConnect uses the existing BMS to reduce consumption by adjusting building settings so there is minimal impact on tenants. It also automates response strategies that are dependent on onsite generators and uses wireless data collection to reduce installation costs. Target customers include real estate investment trust groups, building owners, building management companies, educational institutions, local governments, hospitals, and datacenters.
“PowerConnect stands out from other generator monitoring solutions because of its capabilities to schedule, initiate, and document testing and include the automatic transfer switches in the process. Further, the use of wireless devices to control and collect data provide significant cost advantages,” Cutler says.
