The line-up of concrete hammers expanded with a 2-inch AVT® Rotary Hammer that has up to 89 percent less vibration than the previous model, but with no compromise in impact energy. The new HR5212C is engineered with enhanced Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®), a synchronized three-component system for significantly less vibration that results in a vibration rating of only 9m/s².

“In the development of new hammers, Makita engineers focus on user comfort first in both design and functionality. Amazingly, they continue to set new standards in power and performance, as well,” says Adam Livingston, product manager, commercial products, Makita USA. “The recently-released HR4013C with the same enhanced Anti-Vibration Technology gave contractors the lowest vibration 1-9/16-inch rotary hammer, and now the new HR5212C has one of the lowest vibration ratings in the 2-inch concrete drilling category.”

Makita AVT® is an internal counterbalance system that greatly reduces vibration for increased user comfort and greater efficiency. The HR5212C features an enhancement to this already innovative technology with the new synchronized three-component system:

• Air Actuated Counterbalance directs air pressure from the crank and barrel room into the counterbalance cylinders to move counterweight pistons in the opposite direction of the drive piston, which actively reduces vibration.

• Vibration-Absorbing Housing features a spring-loaded main handle and upper housing that move independently of the motor and drive mechanism, engineered to isolate vibration away from the user. This vibration-absorbing housing effectively isolates the rear handle and side handle – an industry first.

• Integrated Damper Spring at the base of the impact bolt is engineered to absorb impact vibrations from the drill bit.

“Many rotary hammers have a detached, spring-loaded handle as their primary means of reducing vibration, which appear to be just updates to an existing tool having limited effect on vibration reduction,” says Livingston. “Compare this to our three-component AVT® system, which is advanced technology that is part of the overall engineering of the tool, isolating vibration not only at the rear handle but also at the side handle as well, an industry first. The result is industrial performance with significantly less vibration.”

The HR5212C has one the lowest vibration ratings in its class at only 9m/s². The powerful 15 AMP motor delivers 19 Joules of impact energy for faster drilling. An added feature is the option of lock-on or trigger-activated in the “chipping only” mode, with a push button start/stop control right in front of the rear handle for more convenient operation.

Additional features include soft start for more control and greater accuracy, a torque-limiting clutch, and constant speed control that automatically applies additional power to the motor to maintain speed under load. The HR5212C offers 2-mode operation for chipping only or hammering with rotation, as well as 24 bit angle settings and a one-touch sliding chuck for quick bit changes.
