Cooling Tower Corrosion Protection - Baltimore Aircoil Co. - Facility Management Product Release

Baltimore Aircoil Co.
website | Company information

The TriArmor corrosion protection system is a material of construction consisting of G-235 galvanized steel, the heaviest commercially available galvanized steel, thermosetting hybrid polymer and a proprietary polyurethane barrier. Designed for evaporative cooling applications, the material is available for cold water basin applications on the company’s 3000 & 1500 Series cooling towers.

The material offers superior corrosion resistance compared to Type 304 and 316 Stainless Steel, but at a lower first cost, according to the company.

The polymer is electrostatically applied to both sides of the steel, providing a second layer of protection from corrosion and serving as a mechanical and chemical bonding agent between the galvanized steel and the factory-applied polyurethane barrier, a third layer of corrosion resistance.

In a flame test, the TriArmor Corrosion Protection System self extinguishes when the heat source is removed. In thermal shock tests, the material cycles from –40 degrees F to 175 degrees F.

The material is backed by a 5-year leak and corrosion warranty and contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It received an honorable mention in the "Green Building" category of the 2007 AHR Expo Innovation Award competition.
