Generac Power Systems’ Gemini Twin Pack genset has a rating of 1000 kilowatts (1 Megawatt). Using Generac’s onboard paralleling technology, power is produced by two gensets operating within a single, sound attenuated enclosure. The new model replaces the 600 and 750 kW Gemini gensets.
Each 16 liter Volvo six cylinder in-line Tier II diesel engines powers a 500 kilowatt alternator at 1800 rpm. The generators can operate independently as well as in parallel. During normal operation, the electrical load is shared proportionately by both generators.
Gemini gensets are part of Generac’s Modular Power System (MPS). As many as seven Gemini units can be combined and paralleled for applications requiring up to 7 Megawatts.
The alternators, digital controls, onboard paralleling system, automatic transfer switch, sound attenuated enclosure, and sub base fuel tank are company designed and built. The PowerManager Digital Control module, a fully integrated controller built around a 32 bit industrial microprocessor, controls and monitors all generator functions while allowing the PowerManager system to be customized to meet any application requirements.
