New conference and expo in Vegas offer industry insights

By BOM Editorial Staff

Trade Press Publishing Corp., the parent company of Building Operating Management magazine, recently announced plans to launch Facility Decisions Conference & Exposition. Taking place Sept. 16-17, 2008, in Las Vegas, Facility Decisions will serve the unique information needs of facility executives responsible for the management, operation and construction of commercial and institutional buildings.

“We’ve received numerous requests from facility professionals in Western states to develop a conference and expo that’s closer to them,” says Bob Wisniewski, co-owner of Facility Decisions and president of Trade Press Publishing. “We’re thrilled to deliver a world-class conference and exposition our attendees and exhibitors expect in a region renowned for its robust and continual growth in facilities management.”

Wendy Loerch, director of education for the conference agrees. “We’ve wanted to bring an event like this to the West Coast for some time, as the number of high-tech, commercial office, education, health care, hospitality and entertainment facilities in this area of the country is tremendous. We look forward to developing a cutting-edge slate of conference sessions and unbeatable networking opportunities for our attendees.”

Facility Decisions, which will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, will feature more than 40 free seminars on topics such as building security, wireless technologies, sustainable best practices and energy rebates. The expo will feature more than 200 industry suppliers showcasing their latest products and services. The show is expected to attract 2,000 facility professionals and will rotate every other year with Facilities Midwest Expo, in Rosemont, Ill., which is also produced by Trade Press Publishing Corp. Optimizing Data Centers
Reliability, energy are focus of free Webcast set for Sept. 27

Over the next few years, data centers will be high on many facility executives’ priority lists. Rising energy costs make the power consumed by data centers — and the difficulty of cooling them — a constant concern. And for those facility executives who don’t currently manage these facilities, an increasing dependence on 24/7 access to electronic information may soon prompt the need to add data centers to an organization’s portfolio. Add to these challenges the overall cost of building and operating data centers and it’s clear that data centers pose a significant challenge.

An upcoming free Webcast from Building Operating Management aims to explore strategies to address these challenges. “Data center optimization: Increasing reliability, decreasing energy consumption” will take place Thursday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. and will feature Steve Spinazzola, vice president of RTKL. Moderated by Building Operating Management Editor Edward Sullivan, the Webcast will cover the growing demand for uptime, what IT knows (and what facility executives don’t), factors making existing data centers obsolete, how these trends affect an organization, planning for the future, and energy efficiency and green design.

Sponsored by ASCO, DataAire, Russelectric and Square D, the Webcast is free to attend. Click to register.
