Planning for Provisions in the New ADA
The latest version of ADA regulations have new service animal and mobility requirements, including allowing the use of miniature horses and Segways. What are the direct impacts of these to commercial facilities?
The primary impact of new requirements such as the use of miniature horses and Segways is a need to educate staff. Typically, individuals who enter an establishment with one of these would be asked to leave it outside, which could result in negative sentiments and/or reputations if not done tactfully. Many corporate risk managers or facility staff may be aware of these ADA requirements — but the employees at the site who are interacting with the customers on a daily basis must also have some level of understanding of these requirements to avoid potential reputational damage.
